Introducing the inaugrual Striders "Race Winning" Training Course!  Starts 18th September.

This is a free 8 week training course which has been specially designed to develop and nuture our faster runners into a cohesive training group for competitive racing in league events and other targeted races.

We have many members that run together at similar paces on a Tuesday and Thursday night, and whilst our pace groups are highly successful, at the faster end due to smaller numbers of those people we sometimes struggle to get them together. We have a lot of talent within the club and we want to make sure we harness and develop this  as fully as we can, so that we are competitive in the events we enter, whilst still being a great, open and inclusive club for runners of all levels and interests.

This is not to the exclusion of the rest of the club, and we all know that it's our strength in depth that makes us a great club!  But this is a first foray into a more structured course-like approach to training, and we need to start somewhere! If successful, we hope to offer similar courses aimed at progression for other club members keen to develop.

Please see the poster below and FAQs as follows:

Do I qualify for the course?

If you are male and can run under 40 minutes for 10k, or female and can run under 44 minutes for a 10k, and are a member of Striders then you qualify.

What does it cost and how do I join?

It's free! All you need to do is come along, no need to sign up.

When is it?

The course begins on Tuesday 18th September and finishes on Saturday 10th November. The sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

What does the course involve, and do I need to go to all the sessions?

The full course plan is provided below.  It is designed as a very structured eight week programme mixing pace, intervals, racing and some social activities too.

There is no need to attend all the sessions, you can dip in and out if you like, but the aim is to get our faster runners regularly training and competing together and this course is designed to be a catalyst for that, as well as attracting new runners to the club, in a similar way to Run With Striders.

Where do we meet?

Meet at the usual place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Westminster Lodge athletics track building at 7pm. Saturday sessions meet 8am at the track building unless otherwise advertised.

Who is running the course?

The coaching team consists of Andy Auld, Steve Buckle, Mike Bridge and Deborah Steer.  Normal training sessions will run alongside this course, although this will take the place of the faster road runs on Tuesday nights.

Sounds great, but I still have some more questions..

Please speak to one of the above people, or email chair

We hope this course will be a great success, and are looking forward to seeing our first course members on the 18th!
