A large contingent of Striders took part in the Watford Half Marathon on Sunday. The tough undulating course starts and finishes in Cassiobury Park but incorporates hills in the countryside around Chandlers Cross and Bucks Hill.
Fastest male Strider was Jonathan Scott in 1:19:28 (also fourth M40) and fastest female Jenny Maginley in 1:30:12 – Jenny was 14th in the overall women’s race and sixth finisher in the W35 age category. Tony Brady-Locke was close behind Scott in a personal best time in 1:19:36.
Other notable performances included Richard Davis (second M50 in 1:25:16) and Deirdre Heydecker (fourth W55 in 1:50:34).
Striders also won the veterans team prize with strong performances from Stephen Hosty (1:22:34) and Gareth Parker (1:22:36) in addition to Jonathan Scott.
Other Half Marathon best times were achieved by Adam Webster (1:27:33) and Doug Galbraith (1:29:46).
The Watford race also incorporated the Herts County veterans Championships. Striders women vets were the 1st and 2nd placed teams; the mens vets teams were 2nd and 3rd. Jenny Maginley and Deirdre Heydecker each won third place in their respective age categories in the individual championships.
