Strong Start to Sunday League for Striders at Cheshunt

Obviously the extra hour in bed helped the St Albans Striders to some excellent results over the weekend. At a team level there was a splendid turnout of 33 men and women in the first Cross Country event in the Sunday League. It was a very nice morning to run round Cheshunt Country park and Paul Adams achieved an excellent third place overall and Jonathan Scott and Graham Smith were 7th and 17th respectively. Penny Habbick was the first lady strider home closely followed by Wendy Walsh.

Notable individual performances around the country include Steve Buckle who was first over the line in the Luton Half Marathon in an excellent time of 1:14:49 with Paul Earnshaw a little further back running a time of 1 hr 51 minutes. Shusanah Pillinger placed 3rd in the F40 age group at the UK Trail Running Championships at the Stort30 (a 30 mile trail run along the River Stort from Bishops Stortford). Also Heather Hann was second lady at Rickmansworth 10 mile race in 67:17 and Claire Kremer did 70:40.

A bit further afield saw four striders take part in the the Snowdonia Marathon which is tagged as the “toughest marathon in the UK. Wai Meng Au-Yeong, Jenna Pickering, Ben Scott and Mike Dando achieved 6.12, 5.55 , 4.26 and 5:53 respectively with some comments that confirmed that it was indeed a very tough course but enjoyable.

Other notable runners include Carolyn and David Martin who completed the north Norfolk coast trail half marathon and on Saturday Jack Brooks completed the Blackwater Trail Marathon.
