Striders Stand Together at Standalone

St Albans Striders had their latest target race at the Standalone 10K in Letchworth at the weekend, which was hosting the Herts County Championships. Jonathan Scott was the first Strider to finish, in an impressive time of 35:08, just outside the top 10, in eleventh place overall. Scott was followed by Richard Evans who ran a new personal best (PB) of 37:05. Gareth Parker, Doug Hobson and Jim King all managed sub-38 times as well. Their efforts meant that the club secured third place men's team in the County Champs.

Lucy Jones was the club’s first female, just ducking under 40 minutes with a new PB of 39:58. She was followed by Jenny Maddocks (41:16), Wendy Walsh (41:56) and Claire Kremer (43:18). Together these four ladies took the first place women's team prize for Striders.

Nicky Laitner and Ruth Kent also ran new PBs of 44:45 and 45:18 respectively. Walsh and Laitner were the top two runners in the FV45 age category. Roger Sant also got a PB of 47:06.

At another local race, the Willow 10K at Hatfield House, Caroline Bailes and Lehna Gardiner were 3rd and 4th female in times of 49:21 and 49:30 respectively.

Slightly further afield Graham Smith completed a cross country challenge 10K race at Ley Hill, near Chesham, coming 2nd overall in 41:55.

Ian Hirth continued his marathon antics by coming 10th at the inaugural Great London Ultra Marathon in 5 hours and 15 minutes. Also long distance running was Helen Hawthorne, who ran the Loch Ness Marathon in a new PB of 5:32:55.
