With a break in the cross country league calendar, 36 St Albans Striders raced in the St Neots Riverside Half Marathon. 5th overall in the race was Will Bowran, of St Albans AC and St Albans Striders. He took 4 minutes off his personal best to finish with an impressive 73:32. He also beat his dad Steve (of Harpenden Arrows, who was 2nd over-50) by nine minutes. Nigel Aston was next Strider home in 1:28, with Wendy Walsh 1:35, Karen Sheard and Claire Sharp both 1:36, finishing 6th, 8th and 9th in the ladies over-45 bracket. Robin Newby 1:35, Richard Olney 1:38, Julianne Nightingale 1:48, Katie Bunting 1:55, Rachel Aldridge 1:55, Isla Hopkins 2:19 all recorded personal bests. Laura Astley 1:47 was 7th in the FV55 category. Jay A’Court 1:30 also ran a half marathon the day before!

Elsewhere Ian Hirth reduced his PB by a minute to 37:38 in the Fulham 10k. Andrew McKillop ran five 10 mile laps in the Wendover Woods 50 in 9hrs 41mins gaining 14th place. Another feat of longevity was achieved by Mark Travers who completed his 200th marathon near Bedford.
