About Us

Whether you are already an experienced runner or just taking up the sport your local running club welcomes you.

The Club was set up in 1984 to cater for people interested in road running and cross country and we have grown to a club of over 400 some who are fast and race often, others who have just started and are looking for a sociable way to keep fit.

Membership is open to runners aged 18 or over (16-17 year olds can join but must always be accompanied by an adult), of all abilities and we meet at least twice a week with training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Plus there are regular Saturday morning runs.

We organise three local races, the Fred Hughes 10 in January, the Summer Solstice in July and the St Albans Stampede in September. We participate in 3 local race leagues to which all members get free entry, the Mid Week Road Race League (Summer) and 2 Cross Country Leagues (Winter).

If you want to come along to a session to meet us and see if you would like to join, you are more than welcome, check out our when we train page for when to come along. Joining for current membership year costs £26 and you can train with others, learn new routes & meet new people. To find out more about joining please see the Joining Striders page.
