2009 Race

The 2009 race was blessed with great weather - we hope everyone had an ejoyable & memorable race. You can download the overall results here (pdf file) . For more results (teams etc), please visit our results page.

Official race photos are now available to purchase (courtesy of James McMahon Photography). The gallery is updated daily and all photos should be available to view by 25th Jan.


Photos were taken of the leaders at the start and mile 1. The majority were taken about 500 metres from the finish, and should be in almost the same order as the race results. If you can't find your photo please email James with your name, race number, and finish time. A brief description of what you were wearing would also be useful.

The Fred Hughes 10 mile race is organised by the St Albans Striders and is run along country roads and The Alban Way to the North East of St. Albans.

N.B. This race is chip-timed. Race numbers for most competitors have been sent out, if you enetered the race within the kast couple of weeks, you should receive your number in the week before the race. If you have any questions about the race (except if you can enter!) please call Roger Murray on 07504 647110

The school provides changing rooms, toilets and showers for both male and female participants. Kit can be left in the changing rooms or in the main gym but this is entirely at your own risk.

Drinks stations will be available along the route at approximately 4 miles and 7.5 miles. Refreshments will be available for purchase after the race in the upstairs room of the sports hall.

Trophies to the category winners will be presented in the sports hall after the race. These will be awarded to the first 3 individuals in each of the following categories:

  • Male
  • Male veteran over 40
  • Male veteran over 50
  • Male veteran over 60
  • Female
  • Female veteran over 35
  • Female veteran over 45
  • Female veteran over 55.

In addition, there will be team trophies as follows:
  • Men: 1st team (4 per team)
  • Women: 1st team (4 per team)
