New for 2010, there will be a Club Championship running throughout the year. At the end of the year (at the Annual Dinner) there will be an award for the winning male and female Strider. The points system is designed to favour people who turn out regularly for the club and contribute in a variety of ways, rather than just favouring the fast runners, so anyone could win!
There will be 5 races where points are awarded as follows:
- 50 for 1st male Strider
- 49 for 2nd male Strider
- 48 for 3rd male Strider etc.
The same scoring will apply for females. This does not depend on what position you come overall in the race, or the time you achieve, just your position among the Striders (so if you're the only one there you will get 50 points!). The races we have nominated are intended to be a good mix of league races and open races, of varying distances and surfaces:
Watford Half Marathon (7 February)
Standalone 10k (3 October)
First 2010/11 Sunday League Cross Country (date and venue TBC)
One Midweek Road Race League (venue and date TBC)
Club Handicap (points based on running time, not finish time, date TBC)
We are aware that the Watford Half Marathon is no longer accepting entries, but given the number of Striders running, we thought this was the most suitable race to be included. As we're trying this for the first time, we just wanted to get it up and running.
Additional points are awarded for the following:
- 25 points for completing a marathon (only awarded once in a year)
- 25 points for competing in a XC champs (Nationals, Southerns or Herts) (only awarded once)
- 10 points each time you marshal/help at one of our races (FH10, St Albans 10k, MWRRL, XC)
After the Watford Half Marathon, a list of the results will be put on the website, so you can track your position and see how you are doing relative to your rivals!
Let Paul (Men's captain) or anyone else on the Committee know if you have any feedback. As this is the first year of this model, we are treating it as a pilot project, sadly not everyone will agree on the races or points system, however we wanted to start the process for 2010. At the end of the year we'll see how it went and maybe make some changes for next year based on your feedback.
Hope to see lots of you scoring lots of points, and good luck!
