  • About the Club

Whether you are already an experienced runner or just taking up the sport, perhaps having been inspired by events such as the London Marathon, your local road and cross country running club welcomes you.

The Club was set up in 1984 to cater for people interested in road running and cross country including those with no particular experience of, or aptitude for running. Many of the founder members are still with the Club which now has over 250 members.

Membership of the Club is open to runners aged 16 or over, of all abilities. Members also benefit from saving the £1 levy for any UK Athletics race event. The Club also organizes local race events including the Fred Hughes 10 in January and the Ladies 10k  Event in April.

    Benefits also include:
    Newsletter 4 times a year
Use of track and building on Tuesday evenings
Use of track building only on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings
Free entry to cross country and mid week road league races
Free entry to county and national cross country chamiponships
Entry to Club Championships and Club Handicap
10% off at local sports shops, including On The Run
    Regular organised social events

The Club meets for training sessions three times weekly by the running track at Westminster Lodge Sports Center, Holywell Hill, St Albans. For regular training, we use local roads and paths, with some groups opting for speed or hill work. But it's not all hard training and racing.
